Jen Hours
In my artwork, I attempt to fabricate a diverse visual landscape with recycled images found in old magazines and books. Visually, I attempt to build a space, rather a mood, with different elements including colors, patterns, and textures. I am inspired by the notion of living in a digital era that has a constant stream of images and information. Often our brains fail to completely register the vast amounts of images, so we are left with what I call visual “bytes. Small fragments of images that unconsciously resurface and manifest into new data. My current series, Standard Time is a collection of mixed-media collages that explore visual information and perspective. My work is essentially the output of all of the hours I spend online unconsciously documenting memes and Tumblr aesthetic photos.
